When an advertising agency boss suddenly dies in the middle of an important campaign, his assistant Pedro (Juan Manuel Alari) inherits the job. However, Pedro has a notorious reputation for being lazy and is willing to go to ridiculous lengths to avoid doing any actual work. Pedro quickly finds himself paralyzed by the pressures of the advertising world and becomes desperate to recover his boss's ideas for the big campaign. He decides to investigate his boss's life by taking over his apartment, notes and ultimately his life. In a strange twist of events Pedro begins to evolve into his deceased co-worker. His existential crisis leads him to the streets of Montevideo where he finds help from Juanito, an odd, spaceship-obsessed orphan. Director Carlos Ameglio's use of deadpan humor perfectly rounds out this atmospheric black comedy. "La Cáscara" is a taste of the New Uruguayan Cinema at its best.
