@markdave3 Then why are there no historic records of the straight-bladed "Ninjato"?
Or even one single sword found from the Tokugawa period that fits the "Ninjato" description?
-
@Ozzy2817 every ninja forge their weapons, but not all of them.

@choister5000 the straight ninjato is a myth. assassins did use smaller blades, which were relatively straight compared to samurai swords, but due to the metallurgy of that time straight blades where rare and impractical. also the word katana means blade. and the other way to say it was "to" so ninjato and ninja katana mean the exact same thing

actually they have found evidence of a nnjato, (i use the term very lossly) because it was actually almost the leanght of a wakasishi ( forgive spelling) but it was actually formed from a saw blade! and it cutting edge resembled that as well. But because of this its construction was very poor, and id could not stand up to most katana blows. Hence why a ninja would steel a katana when he had the chance.

@Ozzy2817 Agreed, they were more likely to take swords fromdead Samurai, but most of the time didnt use a sword at all.

@zenaku85 It´s a cheap wallhanger, relax! Not some folded carbon-steel blade....

@wolfq There is on more problem with the ninjato: Weapons were banned in japan in the year 1603 to1868.
Only samurai where allowed to carry swords... So wouldn't it be very difficult for the shinobi-clans to find a blacksmith willing to forge their very own swords?
-
there is actually no historical proof that ninja used straight swords. They couldnt afford swords and would most likely use stolen swords from a samurai, and preferably the wakazashi, the shorter of the 2 swords.
