you have to work the drag wheel to the right setting and also sometimes when you cast out the reel may come loose.
The pen works if you have the drag properly set.
Its is only good for ponds, streams, lakes and calm rivers. No fish over 6lbs and definitely not in for use with bigger fish such as you find in coastal areas. I assume saltwater would wear this reel down quick since it is an aluminum plastic alloy with brass paint plating.

We sell these and they're actually one of our best sellers this summer. I have one and they do the job. I've had no problems at all with this, and I take it everywhere I go.
