In this video, I share my first experience using Caron Simply Soft yarn to twist my hair. Normally, I use Red Heart and this was a big change!

I lurk on the Curly Nikki Hair Forum and I was reading a thread about yarn braids: http://www.curlynikkiforums.com/styling-natural-hair/8959-genie-locs-yarn-bra.... One lady was telling everyone about Caron Simply Soft yarn and encouraged people to try it. Well, I listened!

  • Fourth, it is tax season and I want to be HAPPY about my hair so I can focus on preparing tax returns for companies and individuals and not worrying about stuff on top of my head LOL. So in the end, I will retry this after April 15, using only the black coloured yarn, cut much longer and using a brick pattern for the parts. How in the world will I do the brick parts on myself...with lots of time and patience! UGH. It was fun. My shoulders got a good workout. My neck hurt a lot though. =)

  • @HeavenlyAria

Since you are happy, wanna do my taxes and get me more money? :-)

Seriously, I am sorry the yarn was a bomb, but you did learn some things that will make your next attempt more successrful. I don't worry about doing the brick pattern, I make the sections medium-sized in the very back about three rows up and then I start making smaller sections. That seems to do the trick masking parts. That is a personal obsession of mine, too!

Let me know how your next set work out!

  • @NappyNFree LOL. *tries to sing a happy tax time song*. I wish I could say I had the ability to get people more money back. Wishful thinking does not work in our non Harry Potter world LOL. I will keep you posted. I am on a weight loss regimen and made a pact to wear my hair up until my goal has been reached. After that, I will wear it down and get it braided....looks like summer time will be a bit hotter than usual :D

  • @HeavenlyAria

Well, darn! Can't get no breaks with Uncle Sam!

All the best on your weight loss! I am trying to lose a few pounds myself. Getting older SUCKS - my metabolism is sooooo slow! I swear I can smell food and gain two pound.

  • Woooo thanks for the well wish. I am almost finished and I don't like it!!! OMG, these box braids are just not working for me *cries*. I think I will undo them and try the single braid methodology. Grrrrr. I do like that they feel slightly lighter in weight than the kanekolon braids I have used in the past. This adventure is FAR from over. Pffft!

  • @HeavenlyAria

Just checking in. How goes it? Did the braids grow on you?

  • @NappyNFree I understand that because it seems to be what has happened to me. Start your day with a heavy protein and have protein with each meal through out the day (like chicken for breakfast, eggs for dinner). Beef stays in our system longer so it should be consumed early. Raw veggies are good for metabolism. I am going to try just celery this week. 4 stalks a day = 4 servings. I am down 11 pounds since starting on Jan 25, which is ok I suppose. Hurray for going on 41 LOL!

  • Well, I had 75% of myhead done and guess what....yep I removed them over the next few days. =( Will I try again, yes. A few things to consider next time: I didn't make the yarn long enough. I wanted the length to be waist length and it was not. I will have to wrap the yarn around all four legs of the chair. Second, I chose a color that was not working for me and half my head was sporting that - orange. Third, I was doing box parts and too much scalp was showing for my taste...more to come.
