This bible was burned not because it WAS the bible, but DESPITE the fact that it was a bible. The commentary in the New American Bible can cause people to loose their faith- it denies the authenticity of some of the miracles of Jesus and the authorship of the apostles. Burning heretical or inaccurate bibles has been a practice of the church for a long time. & btw, its not necessarily an act of disrespect to burn something- in fact, the proper way to get rid of holy items is to burn them.
