As Quoth the raven explained... Hogswatch is a slow time for him... but hast hogswatch when all those little boys and girls either forget to feed there new gerbils and hamsters or decide to look inside to see what makes them work he gets real busy.
In the book though Him and his trusty stead Qouth. Are the ones who first bring Death's odd behavior to Susan's attention. They do a lot to try and goad her into action and generaly act the roles of side kicks
