10-16-11 Blog: Judgment Calls
Have you ever wondered what it would be like be able to actually be a judge wearing a robe and sitting up on that bench? It would be an interesting experience. In reality, we actually do take on that role from time to time. Although we may not be wearing a robe and sitting on a bench, we draw conclusions about people which can be a dangerous road to go down. Romans 2 tells us there will be a judgment, but it will not be based on my opinions or yours. It tells us to not pass judgment on someone else. If we do, we are putting ourselves up on that bench as the authority, when that authority only belongs to the Lord. In Matthew 7:2, Jesus said that the same measures that we use to judge others will be used to measure us! Wow, can you imagine saying to God, "God, please judge me in the exact same way that I have judged others"! (You don't need to answer that...I think you get the point)! So when it comes to making judgment calls about others, let's get rid of our measuring sticks and let God take the inventory. And remember:
1) Pride projects ourselves highly, and others lowly.
2) Humility understands that the ground at the Cross is level for everyone.
3) God's Kindness leads to Repentance
4) God does not pick favorites
5) Develop a Deeper sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's Promptings
Until next time, stay in the Word and stay in the Spirit!
