  • I've read somewhere that Herzog wrote those words; doesn't really sound like something Steiner would say. Doesn't make the film any less powerful though.

  • It's a quote from a short story by the Swiss writer Robert Walser, but Herzog uses the name "Steiner" instead "Helbling", that is the original text.

    Recently I broke down and ordered his box set of documentaries & shorts. Walter Steiner (pictured in this scene) wanted to "fly" away (occasionally from humanity itself). Herzog has him doing so in this final scene.

  • Herzog always has the best mixture of photography and music... a true chemist...
