Mornflake cereals broke the World Record this week for the largest bowl of porridge ever cooked.
The oat milling company from Crewe were at the Lowry Theatre in Salford this week to help celebrate the stage adaptation of the comedy classic Porridge, which starred the late Ronnie Barker.
In a fitting tribute to the show Chef Colin Rostron cooked up a record breaking 171.9kg vat of porridge and served it up to hundreds of patrons inside the theatre. Rostron smashed the previous record of just 81.2kg which was set in Scotland in 2007 most likely by another well known porridge oats company with links to Scotland. I think you can probably guess the one I mean.
This weeks record breaker used 27kg of oats and 150 litres of water, and took just under an hour to cook.
