this montage tells the amazing story of our son's arrival. at 20 weeks he was diagnosed with moderate - severe fetal cerebral ventriculomegaly. at 24 weeks the doctors gave us the choice to end the pregnancy... but we didn't. we waited and hoped and prayed. there was great stress and i had pre-term labour at 35+4 weeks that was successfully stopped but only 3 days later my waters broke. alex was born the next day during a wonderful, empowering, beautiful, ENJOYABLE 2hr labour! he spent a few days in special care then a day on the ward before going home! the birth of my first child 4 years before alex's was a nightmare. this time i wanted a dream birth - so i hired a DOULA. i worked hard and learnt a lot thru my pregnancy and felt so empowered, informed and confident in my bodys ability to do what it knew how to do. it really was a wonderful labour that i truly enjoyed!!!

  • Does Alex have any problems at all? Why would the end a pregnancy when things can turn out perfectly?

  • @MsPac06 there was a strong chance that he would have very serious problems if not die due to the condition. it was a risk we took and a risk that paid off well for us. not everyone may be so lucky. he did recently had a tumor taken out of his head that had apparently been there since he was a fetus and was on the same side as the ventriculomagaly but no one can tell us if it was related or not. he's doing well now, just turned 3.

  • Thank you, I just found out at 20 weeks that my son has ventriculomegaly (15mm) how large was your son's ? I am seeing a specialist monday, but have already been told by a doctor that my baby is not viable and that it is best to end the pregnancy. If testing shows that the ventriculomegaly is isolated, I will not end the pregnancy. Did the doctors identify other anomalies in your son before birth ? Your son is beautiful.

  • beautiful! Very inspiring!

  • What a beautiful montage and amazing story. Thankyou for sharing.
