Jesus' "this generation" second coming proclamation was fulfilled right on time in the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD. This is the Presterist view of eschatology. No other view effectively synthesizes the "time statements" of "soon", "near", "at hand", and "in a very little while". All Scripture is inspired by God and it therefore must be interpreted in the context in which it was given. Only through paradigm based upon faulty presuppositions force "soon" to be far off and "at hand" to be 2,000 years and counting.

Continued...Were angels, glory and judgment part of the transfiguration?
Private note forthcoming. I love your zeal emzirek. If you are willing to ask the tough questions and be a faithful Berean, God will avail truth to you.
The problem is that we have been inculcated with so many errant presuppositions, that we have to spend more time unlearning than learning the truth.
Do you believe Scripture addresses your last question? Does Scripture give us this answer? Blessings!

Emzirek,
All great questions but as you know I have such a limited space here. I'll send you a personal note as well.
My footnotes tell me that Mt 16:28 refers to the transfiguration. That's what I'd always thought. Until 4 years ago I went with the flow.
Jesus made a rather startling statement. He said that some of His followers would still be alive at when He comes. Do you know how many days it was until the transfiguration? 6! How many were still alive? Every last one of them.

emzirek,
Outstanding question. Why did the 1st century Jews kill Jesus? They expected an earthly political warrior prince who would vindicate them from their oppressors, right? They misread the prophecies didn't they. Jesus came to set up a spiritual Kingdom. Read John 4:19-26, 1Pet 2:5, John 1:13, 1Cor 15:50.
The New Heavenly Jerusalem is part and parcel of the NC. (See Gal 4:21-31)
Who first claimed that the Kingdom of God had come? Mark 1:15
The Kingdom is not flesh & blood.
Blessings

Matt16:28 refers to the transfiguation (a preview of what He will be like look like) in the state of Glory. "This generation" can mean "race" or "family" in Greek. The Jewish race will be preserved in spite of terrible persecutions, until the Lord comes. All these things refer to signs described in 24:4-28.
When did the Earth and Heavens pass away and what are we living on now? Breathing now? Take into your thoughts, was the Gospel preached in all the world up until the end shall come? Help me!

What I want to know is what happened in August 70 AD when Jesus returned. How come He hasn't set up His kingdom? I thought that was going to happen when He came back.

14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying. Rev 22:14-15
This is a picture of what we have today. A spiritual Kingdom in the city of the New Jeru where Christ's righteousness dwells. Outside the city are those who need Christ just like us.

Nearly 40 years after Jesus said "No man knows the day or the hour" , we have a inspired writer penning these words." "Dear children, IT IS THE LAST HOUR" . How did John KNOW it was the last hour? Was he inspired? Those who do not believe in a first century return of Christ have to deal with a whole new set of problems, namely INSPIRATION. John could write it was the last hour because Jesus told them he would send the holy spirit to guide them into all truth. AMEN.

Very good response Darrell. As you pointed out, John didn't just "think" it might have been the "last hour", he KNEW it was nearing the end of the Jewish age and the destruction of the Temple, because all of the preceding signs had been fulfilled exactly as they had been predicted by Jesus. The Gospel had been preached to all the world and the end was about to come. They were living in the last hour. How faithful is our Lord Jesus! Amen brother!

So what is the next big event for believers and unbelievers?
LOGICvsYTIDIOTS 2 years ago
The sky's the limit LOGIC. The "big event" is the unfolding of God's unseen Kingdom Ez 47 style. I believe the Gospel will one day permeate the earth while Heaven continues to become populated with Christ-lovers. To the degree we submit to the Lordship of Christ and the degree we truly love our enemies, will yield immeasurable results. The biggest event for the unbeliever is the day they trust the Lord for their eternal destiny. For me, it's sharing the good news and basking in His grace!
