Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join this man and this....Oops! wrong speech...

Ah. yes..here we go.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, faculty, staff, family, friends and of course the Class of 2008.

I am Dave Daugherty & I would appreciate a round of applause after everything I say.

I would like to start with a quote from the great Thomas Jefferson that he gave at the hour of his death.and I quote "I can now rest in peace knowing that the University of Florida will produce the finest graduating class ever..... in May 2008".

Since we are ending our college career and beginning our new life. I tried to think of a speech that would commemorate our time together and that would reflect the value of our college experience.

One that would be endearing & thought provoking, For those of you that know me..It will come as no surprise to learn that I couldn't think of anything ....So you're getting this speech instead.

I recently heard the Faculty referring to us as "seniors"and I thought.this can't be true..Because:

I never got to slam a freshman into a locker. I never participated in a Senior prank....Unless I never heard about it.....So it couldn't have been that good. And I tried to have my own Senior Skip day....but as you who were with me in Pharmacotherapy know..they sent the sign-in sheet around twice, so I got caught.

Anyways, most graduation speeches say something about today being the start of the rest of our lives ...Well, that may be true to an extent for some of us here today, but it seems most of us are already ahead of the game, as we've gotten Internships and signed on with community chains like CVS and Walgreens. My point is.. We have not only "caught up" with the rest of "normal" society, but we have now joined it.

So to the class of 2008...At this moment.we are really at a unique position.....We stand today on the border between:

Having student discounts.. and paying income tax

Between ramen noodles and. fine dining

Between student loans and.tax audits

Between final exams.. and. paid vacations

Between being students ..and. being alumni

Between academia and. alcoholism

(you know who you are)

Now, I want to take a moment to thank Dr. Inge and Dr. Moyticha from the Jacksonville campus for all they have done to shape our future and I would also like to take time to apologize to them for a few things on behalf of our campus:

1) We are sorry for..all the ulcers we have given you.

2) We are sorry for the morning breath during oral communications

3) We are sorry for rolling our eyes when you weren't looking

4) Sorry for whispering to each other when you would NOT allow us to use the restroom during Pharmacotherapy

5) We are sorry for.. Chris Okoli.. (just kidding Chris)

6) We are sorry for..all the times we pretended to laugh at your jokes (we know lying is wrong)

7) And most of all .we are sorry we are leaving you

I asked my classmates.......... who would pay to have there name mentioned in my speech........I had 3 takers .Nisha Patel.... Roy Principe, Sheena...you now owe me twenty bucks. (note: they never PAID up)

Now let us allow Mr. Thomas Jefferson to remain at peace by not letting him down, for as he saw the potential for greatness in our country all those years ago..I too stand before you...seeing great potential in all of you, and I know that our future is what we make of it..So as we leave the University of Florida behind. (which by the way, is the greatest University in Alachuwa County) Please ask not what your College of Pharmacy can do for you..but what you can do for your College of Pharmacy......So send UF money (Remember the giving pledge)

I would like to take a moment to thank my speech writers..Anthony Principe.... Alysse Miller....Joshua Broadway..Thanks.

I would like to end this speech by saying a few words that only the Jacksonville campus will understand.

Hallelujah Hollaback

Thank You
