If you could write a Country song about prison, death, mother and sweetheart you were more or less guaranteed a hit song. This 1930's song is very much akin to 'The Convict And The Rose' and 'I'm Just Here To Get My Baby Out Of Jail' which Marty also recorded during his career. This kind of prison ballad was of course the precursor for later classics such as Merle Haggard's 'Mama Tried'and Curly Putnam's 'Green, Green Grass Of Home.'

Funny you should say that Steve; one of the best Elvis impersonators was Jimmy Ellis who had an uncanny vocal resemblance to Elvis, but his favourite singer was actually Marty Robbins!
