I apologize for sounding impolite earlier with comment but many major record labels transfer their old mono recordings in actual mono when making CD's of them. I have to admit many of those mono-ized CD's suck in terms of sounding very dull but a few are also great as well. Ken.

This is a great sounding Ellington 78, but you need to "mono-ize" these 78's by playing them on a mono phonograph. Sure mono is dull sounding compared to stereo for the most part but these 78's are not designed for stereo playback and could result in catastrophe. Mono-izing is the proper way to play them. Yours truly Ken.

@Ken1978ify Look no disrespect but I don't intend on ever mono-izing my recordings ( I have a BA in Muisc and Music Education)....the professor I had in college Jazz classes always instilled in us that when recording old recordings you should always go deep into the grooves and pull out all the sound you can, using stereo, Quad, or even surround sound if possible
