I grew up in Newport and haven't been back for years...I can always remember when i was a little kid going to visit relatives hvaing to drive over this bridge,,,Stuff of nightmares...It was so high and only 2 lanes i think, quite terrifying... I rermember when there was a ferry before the Newport bridge went up, and what a difference there was drivingor that it was a pleasure a relief... Anyone else remember?
Rhode Island DOT proposed selling the bridge to a motion picture company to blow it up for a movie, but got no takers. Such a company would have had to pay the cost of the demolition.
