Nia Maria Glassie

Nia came into this world on April 25 2004 to her mother Lisa Kuka the youngest of six in New Zealand.

Lisa began dating Wiremu Curtis. Family members disapproved of the relationship. Lisa was 18 years older the Wiremu.

Nia lived in a small house with her mother, Wiremu, his brother Michael, Michael Pearson (Nia's cousin) & girlfriend Oriwa Kemp.

Wiremu, Michael & Michael would play "games" with Nia, causing her multiple injuries.

Not only did Nia suffer being slapped, hit, kicked & being called "ugly"

In the winter Nia was forced into a bathtub of ice cold water & put in the drier.

"They turned the switch, the one with lots of numbers on it, up too high and Nia kicked the door open but they just put her legs back in."

They would watch & laugh as Nia spun around in the drier for up to 30 minutes bleeding from her head.

On a separate day Nia was pinned to a clothesline & spun around as fast a possible until she fell off.

When Nia fell off she would land on her head.

Nia's jeans and underwear were once removed and she was pushed into a sandpit.
Crying, Nia then had blocks of wood thrown at her.

The radio was turned up to avoid neighbours hearing her cries. She was dragged through the sandpit later causing friction burns.

Nia also endured being lifted up until her head touched the ceiling & was then dropped.

Her head and feet took turns being hung over a fire burning in the fireplace.

The men would practise wrestling moves on Nia they had learned from a PS2 game & fold Nia up into a sofa bed and sit on her.

Nia was put up on the roof of her house and left up there for hours terrified.

"...both family members and neighbors, were aware of the neglect and abuse Nia was subject to...but did nothing to stop it."

The men were constantly thinking up new "games" to play with Nia. They enjoyed hurting little Nia.

In August 2007 Wiremu and Michael kicked Nia in the head three times. she fell unconscious & was put to bed.

36 hours later Nia was brought to the hospital. Doctors were told she had fallen off of Wiremu's shoulders.

Nia's brain injury was so severe parts of her tissue in her brain had already died.

While her daughter lay in a coma, Lisa went out clubbing with her friends.

On August 3rd Nia flew away to a safer, happier place.

Michael and Wiremus Curtis were sentenced to 17 years in prison, Michael Pearson and Oriwa Kemp to 3 years.

Lisa was sentenced to 9 years in prison.

"Think about that for a second. These less than humans didn't get pleasure from causing pain, like a sadist would, they got a good laugh."

I can't come to a conclusion of why these animals treated a beautiful little girl like this. When I see her pictures, I saw my 14 month old daughter, and I can't help but cry. The thought of this little girl going through all this pain sickens me. What part of the human brain tells anyone that it is fun hurting a child, let alone a baby? When I read about stories like this, I sometimes wonder if God has left us to suffer, & let men kill off themselves from the face of the Earth. R.I.L Baby Nia.
