This is just aural divinity!! I had to get the headphones on!!

I love this arrangement of one my favorite songs on the theatre organ.

Yep, the purring is sympathetic vibrations of the theatre building. And yes, it only happens in big theatres. At least that's my theory. I only say this because with my big old upright, with the bass notes--they sound MUCH bigger when the floor vibrates in sympathy. It's the old hardwood floor. In the Loew's case, it is the very steel and concrete of the building. In support of this, you can actually feel the organ in the lobby.

Do you have this in hi-fi? If so, would it be possible to obtain a copy?

Tom, awesome job. This goes to show you how talented you are first time on this console and wow you showed it off. Thank you for another great video you and Don did great.

It's there again at 1:25 and following and at 2:42. I suspect that it is the actual theatre building shaking a bit (sympathetic resonance). The only other place I've heard it is in Radio City (in the lobby). I think it takes a combination of a truly big pipe organ and a vast room such as the Loew's or Radio City. The rounded shape of the room has something to do with it too, I'm sure. It's an extremely complex sound, yet it has the effect of a knock out punch.

Something I've been wondering about since this movie came online. What is the beautiful "purring" sound in the pedal between 13 -- 20 seconds in? Is that the 32 resultant or something else? Is sure is sweet! Does anyone know what registration could make that sound? I've only heard that on a couple big ATOS convention organs or on the Detroit Fox Wurlitzer. Is it something that only happens in big theaters?

Thanks for posting this movie! After hearing the organ again with the awesome sounds I'm even more excited about coming out to the official organ premiere weekend event Oct 3-5, 2008.
Bouncing all around the house here in a happy mood from your video. It will be our "trip of the year" to hear the huge organ live with the acoustics of Loew's Jersey.
The rates GSTOS arranged at the Hilton are reasonable & the PATH train from there goes straight to Loew's. This makes it easier for our trip too.

Often a "work bench" is used so that the finish on original bench isn't messed up. I've seen many other groups do this too. The pristine bench is then pulled out for concerts and other public events. It is a very smart way to operate. Tom was there on an organ crew work day.
I've seen some nice benches get messed up at open console when someone with a wad of keys in their back pants pocket slides on/off the bench.
Somehow after four attempts to get the very end in this file in this wonderful rendition of Tom's, it was truncated. Oh well so much for non-pro equipment. Using the Aiptek HD video recorder, then syncing to the Zoom H4 audio file gets this kind of result. Not bad for a low cost video, I might say.
