WOW! They look like they were beat with an ugly stick!
Call out for Queenie, Duke, or Prince and see what comes running towards you!

@tumirrowl - OK, we'll agree on that. Though the Greek Royal Family actually live in North London having been exiled from Greece in 1967 and the Greek monarchy abolished in 1974 ! Maybe that's why Greece is in such trouble.
There's something very classy and sophisticated about having a Royal Family - and yes, HRH the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is fabulous ! ! !

@citizenofafrica - it's facile say monarchies should be abolished. The question Constitutional Monarchies have is what to replace them with? If the answer's a Ceremonial Presidency (as in Germany and Ireland) then you must factor in the costs of elections. And, because he is elected, a president can never be above politics and represent a nation's people in the same way a monarch can. Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Spain, UK, Holland, Luxembourg and Monaco don't plan to abolish theirs.
-
@tumirrowl - each year the cost of the Monarchy is divided by the total UK population (about 63 million) showing about 67 pence per citizen.
The budget for the US State department is 258 times that of the UK's Royal household. The US State department, educational and cultural programmes budget is $637 million (10 times the cost of the Monarchy).
The total cost of the UK Royal Household is tiny compared to just the President's travel budget. It's also a fraction of the cost of an US election.

@tumirrowl - Yes, you're correct about Queen Victoria and it'd be correct also to say that many more monarchs have intervened to influence governmental decisions (George V notably for his fear of Communist Revolution in Europe after WWI and the UK's consequent housebuilding programme). However, since then there has been little interference and it wouldn't necessarily be tolerated.
-
@tumirrowl - I've seen the excessive and ostentatious security when a US President visits another country. They have their own police, army and vehicles which are unnecessarily expensive. You say that the US has "a system of checks and balances" disallowing the President to "have too much power". Alas, that's why there's so much stalemate in US politics and not much changes. The 2 parties are increasingly dug into their own trench with the Senate and Congress dogmatically opposing each other.

@nachillyo so, basically 'fuck' all other Monarchies except the British? why dont you go fuck yourself, and actually do something productive with your life...

Long live British and Danish royal families! :) Not to mention, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth was former Prince Philip of Denmark and Greece :)
I hope the Danish royal family visit London some day :)
EVERYBODY-
Stop having the animal rights discussion. This isn't f-ing PETA! To tell the truth, I could care less whether they wear fur or not, it's just an outfit, and the animal is just going to end up dead anyway, so why does it matter?

Alexandra's got nice presence. Why did they break up?
oolight 3 years ago
No one knows why they broke up, it was a real shame that they did, though. But Alexandra married a man named Martin, and Joachim is married to Princess Marie, and they are all very happy now.
