This is one confusing animal. It's often called a "mountain cow" but is actually related to the rhinoceros. It has a flexible nose like an elephant. Bottom line: Baird's Tapir has to be seen to be believed.

  • I'm in Trinidad which doesn't have tapirs but we're close to venezuela which has loads of them. One entered the island through a water raft and was seen wandering around but unfortunately someone shot it. I suspect that had human inhabitants arrived later here we would've seen a small colony of venezuela emigre tapirs
