  • Duane Allman did indeed play a dobro, however he played a round neck. This was recorded on a square neck dobro by Johnny Bellar in 2001, in Tennessee. The album name was "It is well with my soul" I would know. I was just sitting and talking with Johhny and the album is here in front of me.

  • @emmoiv He 'really' did play dobro! It was Duane Allman on Cowboy 'Please Be With Me' just as others have said. It's just sad that we don't have more recordings, he played anything and everything by ear.

  • @robertdeltajohnson Thank You! Now could you PLEASE go over to the other Duane Allman- amazing grace vid and let them know over there!!!. Named one of my sons DUANE. And this whole controversy has made me crazy. They insist it's J. Bellar. Listened to Bellar, seemed too close to call. However, I KNOW Skydog did a dobro version. They think all he played was slide. Try to tell them that that A-M-A- Z-I-N-G human being could play anything w/ strings attached to it. Would greatly appreciate it.!!

  • Johnny Bellar is the pickers name

  • Johnny Bellar

  • @robertdeltajohnson, , I stand corrected, although i ment to say his Dobro playing was not what got him famous , like he was known as a master Slide Guitarist,, Most of us that loved Duanes playing knew he was a fantastic studio guitarist of all forms of Southern guitarist , Slide , jazz , rock Blues, country, All the greats leave us way to early in life !!! Rock-On dude !!!!!!

  • @williamgdrew You've missed some great performances, he plays prolific dobro. He taught Clapton how to play during the Layla sessions. He used to play with John Hammond, jr. and Delaney Bramlett(Delaney & Bonnie). He also played dobro with the group, "Cowboy"(see the Duane Allman-"Please Be With Me" video) He was a master at Dobro, Slide and just plain straight up(no chaser)guitar. He was a disciple of Miles Davis, John Coltrane & King Curtis, you can hear their influence in his playing style...

  • @jmb3450 ,,,bull-shit

  • It is me playing this,,,its a dedicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarion,to the man that gave me the strenth, drive and imagination,,,thnx ,Skyman..............

  • Johnny Bellar is the one playing the song.
