Michael Stephens, retired president and CEO of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, CA, provides his thoughts on healthcare reform and how we ought to expand Medicaid and Medicare program to include coverage for additional groups by encouraging integrated health system payment levels.
Hey, Michael, I have a better idea. How about people go to work, earn their own money, shop around for the healthcare they need, and pay for it themselves? When a third party pays--government or an insurance company--costs of healthcare tend to sky rocket. If people are paying for it themselves, they'll spend their money carefully, and health care providers will have to reduce their costs to compete. What do you think?
