The second tune was popularized by the 1942 Don Messer recording of this same medley as "The Dusty Miller's Reel". I believe the King Ganam recording from the fifties shortened the title to "Miller's Reel", but Dusty Miller is the correct title.
Mooreheads was a rough place; wouldn't surprise me if he got in a fight there. It was on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River and everyone from Ontario went there when the bars closed in Ontario. The place burned down in the 1970s.
a few years ago i heard one of canada's veteran champion fiddlers say that more young players need to get the "lift" in their playing that johnny mooring had. i couldn't agree more...

My Grandfather knew Johnny Mooring and also wrote fiddle music that is now in the Don messer collection.
