Tori Amos UK tv 1994 "Pretty Good Year" live vocal on TOTP

This is Tori singing live (the rest is the backing track, as is normal for any Tori appearance on this show.) to Pretty Good Year when it was in the UK top 10, on Top Of The Pops in march 1994.

She's been on TOTP 5 times (Crucify, Cornflake Girl, Pretty Good Year, Caught a lite sneeze, Spark), most are pretty well seen online but you don't see PGY or CALS very often. I taped all 5 off the telly when they were originally on, so thought i'd put PGY on here, and maybe CALS another time.

A small thanks or a little credit is always much appreciated.. as i am a mug who sat and taped all this in the old days and also filmed it with my digital camera just now to share!! (can't connect my video to the computer, so that's the only way i can do it - not the best picture but better than nothing!)

To anyone who doubts Tori's live singing/playing abilities...you've obviously never been touched by seeing her perform live. She's more than a musician, she's an artist...and artists don't need fancy studio equipment to make themselves sound/look better.

If this was in reply to me stating she has been made to mime to the backing track on many 90s tv shows in the UK, i have been to over 30 Tori concerts the last 15 years and have been very touched by seeing her live! She can blow people out of the water with her playing :) However, due to tv shows and their rules at sometimes, she had to mime along, it's not a big deal - thousands of fantastic artists have had to do the same.

A lot of television shows also used to make the artists record a performance right before the show and mime along with it during... so maybe this could be the case here? If it's not live it had to be re recorded cause it's obviously different - and she's a damn good faker lol.

PS: I love Tori and dunno if this is fake or not, just stating facts.

The vocal is live, but that piano is identical to the album version, note for not bit by bit. That's all i meant, and i didn't mean it to turn into huge debate!!!! It was just that some seem unable to believe she EVER mimed to anything on any tv show ever! As if it's some slight or crime to her values! i really should dig out my footage of her on the ITV show "the beat", she mimes along to 3 songs, vocals and music competely mimed! I bet some here would still not believe it!!!!

Not trying to be a jerk, just wanted to pose the idea that she could, in fact, be miked. DPA makes a very small mic (4061) on a wire that can be affixed to the piano lid, the soundboard, or the insides of the body. Can't see it at all. The background strings DO sound canned, but the piano sounds live to me...

It wont let me put a link in here so type in "all about eve martha's harbour totp" - watch that to see how messed up this show can be. This brilliant band sat there in a live show, and in the studio the music they were to mime to wasn't being aired. Yet the audience at home can hear it.

Thank you. It's so beautiful and brilliant to see her, what seems to be an unacknowledged recording artist for horrific reasons, on a british tradition such as TOTP.

I've watched ALL of your videos tonight (though I should be studying for a final exam... ). Anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! Tori is my godess, but I live in latin america, so watching Tori stuff is kind of hard- and watching her live is practically only a dream, so this was truly awesome =)

This is hot. Sorry, I too believe that she's playing and singing live. Strings are played, piano seems live to me, particularly in the outro.
