This is a style of mechanical, motor-driven cancelling machine that was used by the United States Postal Service at countless locations around the country for many years. The owners manual for this particular unit is dated 1959 - various styles of this machine, including the "G," "Flyer," and others were in use even until the early 2000s (albeit at very few locations by the turn of the century) - most going out of service in the 60s when the "MicroMark" cancelling machine came into use. This particular machine is in need of some repair as it's missing the drive belt and need to be turned by hand for this demonstration.
