  • That's not fingerpicking; he's playing the melody on the bass strings of the guitar with a flat pick like Maybelle Carter did on the original recording, then strumming the rest of the strings in time.

    I had the pleasure of meeting that there archtop Doyle's playing...last weekend. It's a Gibson L9 (I think) and they call those "Carter-Scratch" guitars.His was made in 1937 and he finger-picks it in this song.
