@KHSRugger @MichaelBarnes The M1A (Garand) was the first rifle the US Army had which was semi-auto rather than bolt action. It was made before the M14. The M14 was an updated version with a removable 20 round magazine vs the 8 round auto-ejecting mags from the Garand as well as a longer barrel, 7.62x51mm bullet chamber instead of the .30-06 from the Garand and selective semi and fully automatic fire modes.
