I found this movie by accident. The first thing I noticed was the chess theme. So I got interested. The movie comprehend philosophical topics about faith and the apparently nonsense of the nature of human lives. It seems to be made to affirm the uncertainty of GOD existence. But some things never change.

Yust a beatiful movie, possible one om the best non-mainstream movies ever. Every line, every director-thought has been plan into perfection. The chessboard play the role as the path of his life and his fight against his question and ambivalens against the question about what life is. I think this represent Bergman's person i somehow. I love the squire's mighty defiance. The whole film is a masterpiece, and it grows richer on every viewing. The scene in the confessional alone is staggering.
