I agree that your dad got agrivated at you for having it without his permision but...he should have taught you at an early age. I was like you, my dad had a ruger 22 (kept loaded though) back in the later 70's. I was under 10 and that got me started in guns. SAFTEY!! You are definatly on the mark. I agree with you 100%!! If all of the U.S. would think like you and I there would be less shootings. I teach kids in Royal Rangers about firearm saftey. Thank the Lord that you didnt get hurt.

Amen to all that was said strongbadd, it's all about education, if you want to lower accidents in this country that's the prime way to do it. I went through a similar firearms training with my father, he just handed me the rifle and told me to shoot, I did. I didn't do very well. It was my grandfather that taught me most of what I know and gave me that passion for marksmanship. I learned a respect for firearms from him. Bravo to you sir for your stance on firearms.

crap got busy with life and such and now I totally forgot what I was doing lol
Even at your relatively young age, you have an incredible understanding of reality Alex, especially considering your father's poor decisions not to properly introduce you to firearms. Everything you say is dead on. My father was exactly the same as yours, and I was left to learn about firearms on my own. Should I have children some day, things will be different.
No bad ever comes from a child taught to properly respect a firearm.

you rock, dude! i totally agree with all that- teaching safety and responsibility of handling guns at a young age will drastically lower the incidence of accidental injury and death related to firearms, not only in young people, but all age groups.
