  • Help! I downloaded the 2.6 version (Now the most current one) but when I try to run it an error appears saying "The application has failed to start becuase its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." What did I do wrong/didn't do? I am currently using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9.

  • @BioshadowX You may have to download from Microsoft the "Microsoft visual C++ Runtime 2008 Service Pack 1" file and install it. (google that) CamStudio 2.6b needs the 2008 version, while Win7 has the 2010 version.

  • @tbritton33 Thank you so much! Working great now!

  • @BioshadowX Excellent!

  • @BreathOFLaminin Where did you get the beta? From our Sourceforge site, I hope! There's a bad (virus) version floating around the 'net. Now, did you go to Options/Program Options/Name of AVI File and select "Ask for Filename"? It should allow you to navigate to the folder of your choosing and save it. I assure you, files don't go invisible - you are likely confusing the temp directory with the saving directory for the finished video. Look at that again.

  • @tbritton33 But the thing is, I know the exact folder I saved it to, and when I save a new video, it shows the old ones in the folder. But, when I go into the folder on my own, I don't see them.

Also, I downloaded the new Beta CamStudio, and it won't even allow me to name any of the videos I record with it. I'm so confused...

  • @BreathOFLaminin Yes, it works, but you may have to download from Microsoft the "Microsoft visual C++ Runtime 2008 Service Pack 1" file and install it. (google that) CamStudio 2.6b needs the 2008 version, while Win7 has the 2010 version.

For the lost videos, they are being saved in the program folder, wherever you placed that. If you set the "Name of AVI File" setting to "Ask" it will remember the folder you designate in the future (have started the program as an Administrator)

  • Does the new version work for Windows 7? I tried it and had some problems, so I downloaded the old version and it works beautifully. Except for one problem... whenever I save the file, it saves it and I can see ALL the videos I have recorded in the folder it saves them to, but when I actually go to that folder, it shows NONE of the videos. It even lets me watch the video I recorded with the CamStudio player after it has saved, but I can't get back to it. It doesn't show it in the folder after.

  • @SilentStalkerX Cool! It is my understanding that the "Stereo Mix" underlying technology is actually present on all these machines now "missing" the feature, but that it is merely hidden by a registry entry. There is a comment to one of these videos leading to a YouTube video showing how to change that registry entry, allowing the "Stereo Mix" feature to re-appear. Anyway, it is good to know it is still working - even with the error message - on several machines.

  • @tbritton33 My laptop(Dell Studio XPS1640) was bought in late 2009, and it does not come with Steroe Mix as well. However, I got the "Record from Speakers" option to work perfectly, even if selecting the option keeps on giving me the message "WaveGetSelectControl() failed". This was done on 2.0, btw.
