Get your head out of Atlas Shrugged and look at the way the world is really run. Things, and therefore the wealth they create, are produced as a result of collective effort not individual largesse.
And you're a shining example to the rest of us i suppose. Who built your house, made your clothes and shoes, grew the food that keeps you alive so you can spout these inane ideologies? Put you on a desert island and let's see how long you would survive, for all your individualism.
Here we must agree to disagree. You value compassion--the giving of what your mind and efforts were unable to produce. I value the exact opposite, justice--keeping that which your mind and efforts produced. Perhaps, your error is in expecting life to be fair. Or, even worse, thinking government can create a measure of equality any other way than by making everyone poor.
Really. And what is the position of the poor in this admirable system? What about class differences? Extremes of wealth and poverty? Unequal power relations? Panglossian optimism is incredibly out of place here!
Liberty is the natural state of mankind that preceded government---the right to use the power of your mind as a means of survival and advancement. American government was established to protect these liberties--speech, self-defense, self-determination, the right to be left alone, etc. Government's charge is to do that which people cannot do for themselves--such as common protection, roads, coining and such. Activities such as taking the citizens money and donating it to charity are illegitimate.
Let me ask you an honest question: what exactly is the nature of this freedom and liberty that you seem to think you posess? Yes i do think that success means something other than money, yes i do think that freedom means something other than exploiting people for profit.
You are welcome to choose the successful as your sworn enemy, if you find that psychologically satisfying. That is the beauty of freedom. But do not hide from this truth: Corporations cannot take your liberty. Only governments can. No history book will tell you otherwise.
Man that is all just THEORY. In the real world, corporations have more money and power than governments. We're not in the era of little mom and pop stores anymore. Profits are just receipts minus costs, the unpaid labour of the workers who actually produce the goods! That is why PROPERTY IS THEFT as Proudhon said!

Las Vegas will be the best darn place in the world with profit and success!! How can you say that???
Yes i do think that success means something other than money, yes i do think that freedom means something other than exploiting people for profit.
