Authorities in the Indonesian capital Jakarta say the infection rate in Papua is 15 times the national average.

But field workers say that figure could be closer to 50 times.

Although the Indonesian government say they have the problem under control, it is thought that there are now many more Hiv positive housewives than sex workers.

1st. Mr. Karma, you didn't understand what was the question asked. Agus Alua pointed out current issue of spreading HIV AIDS and not the history how AIDS was contracted by sailor in Merauke.

2nd. Business of pub or "bar" in Indonesia is protected by hidden forces weather TNI or ARMY, it has NOt been proved. No one bother to provide an independent investigation. Not police investigation.

Papua has a disproportionate amount of non-Muslims, it's not a suprise HIV/AIDS would be disproportionately high. Muslims aren't supposed to take illicit drugs, have pre-marital sex, aren't supposed to be promiscious or commit adultery. Those religious precepts and practices cuts down the likelihood of contracting HIV/AIDS.
