Mariah Carey has a shitload of #1 hits too that doesn't say shit about how good a musician they are, it just means they appeal to the idiotic plebs of the time. I didn't realize writing nonsensical songs about idiotic acid trips was considered worthy of being called the greatest songwriting of all time. Sure they do have a few really good songs and a number of pretty good songs, but the also have a thousand songs that are pure garbage. The Kinks, Animals, Who, and Stones are all better bands

Forget about the 27 #1 hits (that is amazing though). The Beatles explored more new territory than any band from their generation. And... they are arguably the best song writers of all time. Have you ever sat down and listened to Abbey Road? No album in the world transitions as smooth as that does. It's on a whole other level. Their #1's aren't even their best songs. So if that's all you've heard, I see why you might think like that. And you'd be very misguided.
