@staphinfection - although I learned multiplication the traditional way, I recently learned about the lattice method and that seems much more comfortable for me.

If you just do it the traditional way, it's just as fast and easy, and works for ANY combination of numbers of any size... If you start learning all these janky "shortcuts" you will be confused and do it wrong.
