This was a visual attention experiment conducted by Becklen and Cervone(1983) to show that the human mind has its limits. There is only so much the brain can process at a particular time and it must be selective in what it chooses to filter. Watch this short clip very closely...

  • my psych. book said it was done by neisser in 1979..and later on by the other 2 guys in 1983

  • didnt see the girl in the umbrella and lost my way towards the end anyway lol, looking forward to this exam tommorow:/

  • @flaclad82 it is by Neisser (1979). Pretty sure of that. I studied it in my psych class at uni.

  • are you sure this is an experiment by Becklen and Cervone(1983)?

I thought it was by Neisser (1979). I advise to check it out..

  • I got 20 :D

  • Woohoo! Counted all 20 and saw the girl, but I didn't think much of her. I also was unsure of my count near 6 or 7.. But stood my ground and got the right number of passes. Interesting, proof that we should trust our initial senses.

  • I lost count. Looks like 2 balls. But I saw miss lady.

  • but the question is, will it blend?

  • I had no problem counting but I had to watch it 3 times to notice the umbrella girl :P

  • @ilikepie4526 Same here
