Written entirely on a Yamaha CS-5. The drums were sampled off the synth and everything else played in mutitrack. Only effects and processing was a bit of delay and compression!

Please have a listen to my band: myspace.com/thedualist

  • I've just bought a cs10 and plan to do one of these.. Gimme a couple of weeks and i hope it turns out half as cool as this one!

  • is a great synth. i look forward to hearing it!

  • I really enjoyed this piece. Upbeat and snazzy but sad and poignant. The melody is catchy and you use a rich variety of sounds and colours. If you recorded this in parts, how do you perform it live?

  • thanks

the simple answer is we don't play it live

my band is rock/post punk type outfit plus synths

mybe we'll do a version of this one day

  • the cs-5 is a great unit. have fun with it! let me know if you have any questions I can help with

  • Nice video - i bought a cs2 today at ebay. I have 2 Minimoogs but the 24dB-Sound gets boring with the times, this little fellow here sounds much more fresh + you have a lot of more ways to "bend" the sounds (s&h, fast LFO with better/deeper modulation, a simple hold-function for the VCA and a HAMMER-Filter). NO JOKE!

    Thank you for showing/playing this....

    Cheers

    Martin

  • thanks Martin,

how can you get bored with 2 Minimoogs?

the great thing about the cs5 is the lfo goes to pretty high frequencies. if you turn the frequency right up and mod the PW of the square wave and mod the filter with resonance on, then sweep the cut of freq and you get some awsome sounds!

only disapointing thing about this synth is that the filter won't self osc. but you do get band pass and high pass along with low pass

  • This makes me think of someone going on a journey, leaving things behind with regret but hopeful for the future.

  • Great stuff! Very impressed. I dusted off my cs-5 for the first time in 15 years last week. I was amazed it still worked. I gave up messing about on synths back then and have only just come back to the cs5. Got myself a small amp to play it through and I'm loving it. Amyone got some decent patches for it?

  • Respect! At last someone posted a descent cs5 demo :-)

  • But... but...isn't "multi-track" already POLY-chachonic, by nature? :) (still an awesome feat to mix it into a listenable track, 5 stars)

  • Wonderful track! I got a cs-5 myself, it's the one that sorta started my love for the synthesizer sound. If only I could afford more of its likes :)
