I think your infomation is a little mis-leading. First off, the first crusade started when the turk invade the Byzantine Empire. Then the Catholic started the first crusade. The purpose of the first crusade was to bring military aid to the Byzantines and desired to control of the Holy Land which was part of the Byzantine Empire.

Also, there is nothing more divisive than religion, for it casts people into the "us and them" divide, "us" always being right, having the truth, being the best, having the "only true way" as opposed to "them" who are always wrong, don't have the truth, are the inferior, and follow "false ways".

@ram3o in all documentaries ive watched what the byzantine empire wanted was a few 100 mercenaries, the Byzantines didnt want or expect 60k christian army, it was a play by the pope.
and the idea that they were fighting to bring the lands back to byzantine empire is a joke.

You state that Osama bin Laden proclaimed Islamic Jihad or holy war against the west. First of all. Who is Osama bin laden? He is not a leader of any state; nation; or even a political party. Osama is a former ally of the CIA/USA.
He has no authority to declare war. He is an outlaw in many Arab countries(only Iran claims to be an Islami-C state) He is a criminal and a terrorist. And many muslims view him this way. Muslims are too busy calling each other kafirs. finally, no war is holy!

Islam fought against Pagan Arab who worship stones, and others who worship the sun and the moon. Islam was on a deffenseve live to protect it's faith and it's people. But if we go few hundred years ago we see that most of the Muslim countries were attacked from the west, millions lots their lives in result to ocupation, which led to the torture and humilation to the entire nation. It may not be religion per se which is evil but certain religions, or what governments make of them. There has never been a war incited to Buddhism or Taoism to my knowledge, for example.

Yes and know, because at the time of the Crusades, Catholic Christianity was more or less all there was.

You are dead wrong. This is historical background on what really happened. I approve of none of it. Can't you see that these truths are offensive to the Christians who believe the Crusades were a Holy Cause? Take a look at parts 2-5, and you'll understand a lot better.
