"I'm not scared of terrorists. I'm scared much more of the Government" - Vivienne Westwood, fashion designer.

Under current UK anti-terror laws you can be locked up and repeatedly questioned by police for up to 28 days without being charged. You might not even be told why you are there.

"It looks good on paper, until it happens to you" - Riz Ahmed, actor and musician.

The Government is now proposing to extend this period to 42 days. With your help, we can stop them. Watch these interviews and visit www.chargeorrelease.com to find out more.

"Intelligence is a murky business, sometimes a necessary business, but it is not enough to go to war, or to take someone's life from them, and to incarcerate them for months and years on end." - Shami Chakrabarti, Liberty Director

  • great 42 days, in 3 more years they'll get 50 days, in another three they'll want 70, they keep getting what they want, because they manipulate public opinion in the tabloids. Democracy is a joke, it's just the constant tug of war where by the super rich and powerfull get paranoid about losing power to an ever more increasingly sophisticated society. They fear because people can now find out what's going on.

  • Main targets next are ID cards ''ver ar your papers'', increased CCTV, congestion charges in cities (licence plate registry for each city goer), Internet regulations favouring corporations etc.

  • Piss off.

  • @instantflavour

    yeah.

the 3rd sector is try to achieve the post-democratic age, by stealth.

they want us all "campaigning" and "having our voice heard" all the time instead of just voting occasionaly and getting on with our lives.

the whole glorification of "protest" is overrated.

  • iTS TIME FOR EVERYONE TO USE THEIR VOICE.

WE ARE IN A CRITICAL STATE.

    jOIN US.

  • Just watched the fitna video, makes Shami Chakrabarti look very out of touch.

  • ShamiChakrabarti isn't living in the real world. The more she opens her mouth the more votes the BNP get.

  • How strange that Shami Chakrabati attacks the democratically elected Government yet revels in the fact that we have no way of voting her out. What kind of liberty is that?

  • Well the mainland managed to survive 25-odd years of active IRA campaigns without the need for a 28-day pre-charge law, let alone a 42-day one.

Since you've asked a direct question, I would rather a freer society where we treat all people farily even at the slightly increased risk of a terrorist attack (which is still extremely low anyway). So, yes, I am against 42 days (and 28 for that matter). You /cannot/ just lock people up without charge in a supposedly respectable and progressive society.

  • Chakrabarti doesn't give a shit about peoples freedoms. She's a total fraud and illuminati puppet, as is David Davis. Look it up.

  • It is dangerous for people to be naive enough to assume that powers taken to detain people with no charge will not be open to abuse in the future.

  • i do not like what this country is becoming. The people of our country are no longer citizens with rights they are customers with money. We are no longer kept safe by a police force that makes our safety is sole purpose, instead we are monitored by Private CCTV security companies whose sole interest is profit. The NHS, the post office and our public services are being sold off at auction. As for terrorism I celebrate terrorism on the 5th of november every year as does every one in britian.
