When you cry I taste the salt in your tears means the same thing as footprints by unknown author - jesus is holding you - hence when your down he is so close he can taste your tears. It's a spiritual song. The rest is about life's struggles and the redemption (or not ) at the end.

I just realized how Ironic and true what i just posted about this song is, oneness is lonely... go figure, and taste the salt in your tears. Willie Watson is a genius.

Everytime I have heard "In This Together" Live, it has come up short. It is a painfully beautiful song, but it is too intimate for any room with more than 4 people in it.
