  • My cousin Nat is playing bass in the center of the screen.

  • you do know that Dirty Projectors have been on the circuit a lot longer than Vampire Weekend. If you're gunna draw any connection with the vocals, then DP would be the inspiration, not the other way round.

  • guys everyone in the this band is amazingly talented at there respective instrument, so what ever they're doing is fine

  • @lombado22

Rape is not funny, but I understand what you mean.

  • @GbOverAb

They are not doing anything so special. Actually, it's a bit squeaky. If that's the "sound" this band was going for, then I understand. But it's still a trend among so many performers.

  • Look at what they're playing. Everything's about single notes against open strings. This isn't strum along with Jethro Tull. They're specific riffs, you can't 'transpose' then. The capo is to get things in the right key for the vocals and lift the guitar higher to keep the bass/mids free. All essential to their sound.

You're just getting back to me now?? OK well, as a 12-string player I can see where tone can be changed, or the pitch varied. In some songs by Peter Gabriel I have to use the capo on fret 1; on some songs by Jethro Tull the capo is on fret 3. I saw a guy at an open-mike 2 days ago with capo on his 12-string on 5th + 7th frets, and I just didn't see the point. You can just change the key. It has to serve the song --- not just be fancy. Yes, it IS a trend today.

  • @Raelspark Capos don't just change the key, they can give a much brighter sound. You act as though people use them simply because they're considered 'cool' (never heard of someone who thinks capos are 'cool', though, but whatever), I'm more than positive that they're being used consciously to deliver a specific guitar tone, so your assertion that its a 'trend' seems pretty weird to me.

  • @ingyant Plus... Ezra Koeing used to play Sax in the DP back in the day

  • @scbaldwin13 Wow, that's really cool.. Can you ask him to introduce me to Dave?

  • Don't like the capo sound at all. What the hell's this trend with using capos? Especially girls? Just change the key. Follow the bassist.

  • @thebeattrustee God reads these comments and you are already going to hell for that.
