It's depressing that we can have higher thoughts yet most ppl run only on their animal instincts. It's like a curse that we had to evolve to know how pathetic we are & how cruel life is. I don't feel like I fit in for that reason. I believe in living for higher ideals. I would rather die than be like "them": selfish, cruel, backstabbing, etc. I choose not to be like them & if that means I fail at life; oh well, because to me it's worth it to feel I'm more than just an animal in the end.

You've layed it all out much better than I can, but this is similar to stuff I've been thinking. My life is pretty much in a similar boat to yours and it is a major headfuck, but when you think of it like the way you put it it does make it easier to cope with. Being able to understand it and see it all for how it really is.. its something most people cant and WONT do.

@louea380 As far as confidence is concerned, again, I think we disagree. For the last 10 years I have been motivated- to become a professional musician. Guess what? In the face of all of the intense competition, I don't have the talent to hack it. How can I develop any confidence when I continually fail at the thing that represents my motivation and direction? So what, am I supposed to be happy slaving away working for someone else, doing something I don't believe in? How is that fair?

@jgmafia According to what you've said in these comments, women aren't that important to you. Well I'm happy for you in that you can generally live a satisfied life as an asexual person, but to most guys, romantic love and/or sex is important. To me, as a virgin, and an Italian to boot, it is the one experience I haven't had that I'd like to have someday, but as of yet I haven't found the right girl for me. What frustrates me though...

@jgmafia ...You don't need to be scheming and self serving to succeed at a mediocre level, but to REALLY make money (the kind of money that attracts a smart, beautiful woman, which is what I want) I really DO believe you need to be somewhat scheming and self-serving. If also believe that if you are not succeeding in the capitalist world, there will be few women who will be willing to sink into the depths of poverty with you, and that can make a lot of people unhappy (myself included).

@louea380 Tell me then, what do you do that makes you happy? You may not need a LOT of money to be in a good relationship, but you do need a living wage, otherwise the woman has to carry your ass, and that can complicate things (i.e. she might resent you, your power in the relationship is limited, etc.). I do not make a living wage right now, though I believe I should. For the most part, you need to be in decent shape if you want a girl who is in decent shape (I do)...

@jgmafia Most of what you've said here is bullshit. You don't need money to be in a good relationship. You don't need to be 'in shape'. You don't need to have a great job. You don't need to be an alpha male. You just need motivation and confidence. Confidence comes with motivation and direction.

You also don't need to be scheming and self serving or succeed in the capitalist world to be happy. I'm sure you know this already though.

@GriefTourist so true.. this is something I've said in the past and found people just hate to admit it. They want to believe that their efforts are rewarded and it's all aquired as deserved. It's so not.. I hear stories all the time about how exactly someone I know has got a job working at some place, and it's always through a friend or relative holding a spot for them. These people who are literally handed work are the same people who look down their nose at people without jobs.

@karaokegirlk I absolutely agree, I just wish I could accept our so-called "failure at life" (i.e. our inability to be as scheming and self-serving as the next guy/girl) without feeling so bitter about it.
