The U.S. and Singapore-based creators of the low-cost I-slate tablet computer are preparing for full-scale production following a yearlong series of tests that show the device is an effective tool for Indian children.

Jointly developed by researchers at Rice University in Houston and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the I-slate is designed for classrooms that lack electricity. When mass produced, the I-slate is expected to cost less than $50.

  • This is incredible! I honestly hope they can create a solar powered version.
