Got any pointers for me? I can't find a good tutorial on how to use the sustain pedal, so I decided to experiment.

I don't see what was apology-worthy in that experiment; it sounded fine to me.
Don't know anything good for pedals, unless you feel like trying the 3rd movement of Moonlight Sonata.

The first movement could also be used with the sustain. I like the way it sounds, a la Andras Schiff way.

Following your lead, I'm listening to Andras Schiff's lecture on the Sonata in C#minor. Interesting. He rides that pedal hard. He suggests that Beethoven actually wanted it played that way. Thanks for the suggestion!

No problem; I also believe that's how it should be played. Also, listen to Kempff's version.
