Viet Nam is one of Southeast Asia's most inspirational success stories. Leaving its war-torn past behind, Viet Nam has emerged as one of the most stable and dynamic economies of the region. A major agricultural and fisheries exporter, Viet Nam also has a fast-growing manufacturing sector
that has helped make it one of the world's fastest-growing economies.

For the traveler, Viet Nam offers a wide array of choices: from bustling city life to tranquil village living, scenic coastline to dense jungle, historical sites to picturesque natural scenery. Then there is, of course, the worldfamous Viet Namese cuisine.

Bordered by Cambodia, China and Laos, Viet Nam is abundant in natural resources. Its dense jungles are rich in biodiversity, yielding newly discovered species of wildlife that have astounded scientists.

With a population of over 86 million, Viet Nam is a multi-ethnic country, comprising some 54 ethnic groups. The people of Viet Nam are known to be resourceful, industrious and family-oriented. They are well versed in the arts, and have made several contributions to the world of literature.

While commercial activities flourish in such cities as Ho Chi Minh, formerly known as Saigon, travelers can still find tranquility and peace at World Heritage Sites such as Ha Long Bay or the enchanting ancient town of Hoi An.

Viet Nam became the seventh member of ASEAN on 21 July 1994.
