The ancient court room was a fun experience with the most important section where prisoners were sentenced. A black stick from the judge and you could spend the rest of your life deteriorating in a cell. But a red stick...well...you were a dead man. All that awaited was an "auspicious" day to have your head cut off. Seriously....an "auspicious" day...

Did you know that Pingyao was one of the first places in the world where checks were used? And, the financial houses in Pingyao handled over 80 million OUNCES of silver annually? We learned a lot...
