You pair of tools, winter conditions and not even the basics of map and compass!? Then you manage to get split up? This is the stuff that MRT callouts are made from, ill-prepared, under-experienced folk thinking they're Bonnington.
NEVER go out on the hills without a map, compass, whistle and emergency food. in conditions like that I'd say a bivvy bag is a must as well.

You must be masochists. I did that walk last week, got as far as Broad Crag in the high wind, rain and fog, then had to turn back as I couldn't see anything. The climb was never ending and very tough!

This ascent & descent was from the wasdale side. on the way down we drifted apart it was my first time totally lost no map or compass didn,t have a clue where i was i dropped down a few hundred meters & sheltered huddled in a rock out crop it started to get dark i had no torch i sat there for a while the weather eased off so i decided to follow the flow of water first by sound then i could see it it turned into Lingmell Gill we where camping in wasdale i made it back to the car soaking wet
