Guido Westerwelle, Germany's future minister of foreign affairs refuses to answer a question of a british journalist in english during a press conference. What a shame for a (future) minister of foreign afairs!

I don't understand why they (Germans) refuse to speak English. Even on you-tube they speak German and no one understand a fuck of it. James Bond even speaks German in that hole... -.-''

@Liekie.... well definitely not true... BUT IT IS TRUE, that it is a shame for a politician, ESPECIALLY for a foreign minister, not to be able to answer a question in english and therefore, as he is obviously representing germans, evokes your feeling of german people not being able to speak english....

westerwelle is quite unpopular at the moment in germany.

Nah thats not true. You should see the frensh xD A lot of germans are willing and skilled enough to understand english and speak a litte BUT they kinda have an annoying accent :D .. me included

And?What's the problem?It's good to see Germany now has the self-confidence it and its people deserve.Germany is a huge country,with over 80 million people and German is the most spoken language in Europe,10th most in the world!!This is not Polish or something useless.Good on him!Greetings from the UK

His reaction to the journalist was not so self confidence.
A minister should show he is flexible. A minister of foreign afairs should not have a problem talking english, even if he is unprepared for this. German might be the most spoken language in europe (not strange if Germany has 80 million inhabitants and some nearby countries are also or partly german speaking), but that's no excuse for the geman not want to / be willing to speak / understand english...

...The english level of most ppl. in Germany and german speaking countries is very poor. That's too bad.
