It seems so wrong that something like this could be destroyed - surely it should have been listed? Odeon are getting rid of every old cinema. These modern cinema companies are owned by hedge funds and don't want old buildings. The biggest multiplex chain doesn't own a single "real" cinema at all. English Heritage should have listed this - what a stupid short sighted country we live in.

Thanks for that, Whats the tune? I don't seem to remember it

@CliveevilCuk Sales Talk, composed by Stanley Black in 1944.

@CliveevilCuk While the skill of the organist shines through, people should realise that this CD is a selection of remastered 78s, so one has to compromise with regards to audio quality

I think that the piece is called 'Salestalk'. For a CD recording of this organ, look for 'Powder Your Face With Sunshine' form the Lancastrian Theatre OrganTrust.(LTOT).

There used to be a bar on the corner of the Gaumont building called the Long Bar, it re-opened in 1976 after being empty for a number of years as a cabaret and disco nightspot and we spent some great nights there, i,m not sure the cinema was still going then, a year or so later the cinema became a nightclub called Romannoffs but for some reason did,nt really take off and then became Rotters nightclub and went on as that for a number of years, today it is the site of a chinese restaurant.

@doubledeckers dont worry about it got enough shit buildings in Leicester including the shiney cineworld and crap Lewis`s department store at Highgate Leicester
-
too right they are listing crap buildings including the now demolished 70`s office block in leicester its hideos it came down because foundations slipped but cant protect the buildings that need protecting this goes for both National Trust and English Heritage
-
Odeon still own several older buildings such as the organ equipped Leicester Square and Weston Super Mare and butchered ones inside like Holloway,Swiss cottage and marble Arch. But of course they would get rid of them in the blink of an eye if they could. The recording of Stan Tudor is available of the Lancastrian Theatre organ Trust website and is entitled `powder your Face with Sunshine`

Is there a CD available of this organ?

@stevedn1 very few cinemas are listed and we're losing more every year. Manchester city centre is a mess these days. So many cheap tacky buildings.
do you know who the organist was in the background music? and why was this cinema demolished if it was in a good condition?

Hi the organist was Stanley Tudor at the Gaumont Wurlitzer. Odeon (rank organisation) needed the money and sold it (the land) for 2 mill now a car park
