Feral cats are the same species as domestic cats, but they are not socialized to people and prefer to live in family groups called colonies. Because they are not adoptable, they are almost always killed in animal shelters.
@busrel Listen i have something to tell you .Where you live .Australia.The feral cats do damage .In the untied states .The ferals cats Do not do damage .In the untied states they kill pests .Sometimes birds. So stop commenting .Unless its someone from where you live. Now you know feral cats do not do much damage in the untied states .
@mydoodlebugz a fox would hunt a fearl cat i know cuz we had one and the colony lost half of its kittens but someone called the spca and now the colony is huge but alot of the cats have left the area
Helpful video....we've been helping "feral cats" for a couple ( three of four years or so), and I don't agree completely as something(?) simply killed two of our ferals. They had 'wounds' of some kind...seemed like they had been bitten. This happened to both of them (Momma Kitty and Shorty Tortie), a few months apart. So not "always" a good life. We did find out a fox or two hung out around the area....but I can't imagine a fox doing it.....
I take care of the remnants of a feral colony and have made them at least partially domestic. You just have to pet them while they are eating. Give them a nice plate of food after you've been a little friendly with them and while they are eating if you can get close enough they'll let you pet them. Try it, worked for me.
Feral cats are adoptable. I've had four. It takes time and effort, but the devotion they have to the owner once domesticated is amazing.
