Video Game champion Steve Wiebe visits the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for two screenings of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. It is a documentary about himself battling fellow video game champion Billy Mitchell for the official highest ranking score on Donkey Kong. While Steve was at the theater, he also attempted set another world record on Donkey Kong. Feeling the fatigue of traveling to different screenings, Steve stopped after only several hours.

Unfortunately for Steve, that night his highest score was 695,500 points. For the night of August 19, 2007, the world record to beat was 1,050,100 points as previously set by Billy Mitchell just weeks before.

  • I'd be interested in hearing the counter to the moment when Billy showed up at that Guiness competition, and Steve offered a greeting, but all Billy did was mumble to his wife that there were some folks he'd rather not be around. Was that something the documentary asked him to say in order to enhance the sense that he's the villain? Definitely would love to hear the other side of that coin. ;p

  • @seboxman king of kong was edited to make mitchell look like a douche, mitchell is mostly just a funny guy.

  • @millsmoney - Emulated scores should be recognized.

  • @millsmoney - They are recognized, and should be. They should just be in their own category, which they are. Honestly, some of the MAME players actually have a lot more skill than the arcade players. Check the Twin Galaxies database to learn more, or Classic Arcade Gaming (dot) com.

  • @JNugent74 Emulated scores should not be recognized.

  • Difference...

    Mitchell is a douchebag

    Steve is really cool guy.

  • Mitchell is a douchebag

  • You've misspelled "photo op" as "photo opt."

  • Just for an update... Hank Chien now holds the world record on Donkey Kong (Arcade) with a score of 1,061,700. Dean Saglio holds the world record for Donkey Kong (M.A.M.E.) with a score of 1,136,400. Dean's whole game can be watched on his channel at justin.tv at justin.tv/up2ng/b/262483944. The last part of Hank's game can be watched right here on YouTube at /watch?v=kozGPHXfqvU.
