Footage from a recent whale watching tour on the Monterey Bay. We are all water, and we need to return to it frequently.

Sea Mammals featured in this video:
* Sea Otters (starting at 0:57)
* California Sea Lions (starting at 1:16)
* Dolphins (Right Whale, Common, Harbor, & Risso's - starting at 1:48)
* Whales (Blue & Humpback - starting at 3:34)

This tour leaves from the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor on the north side of the Monterey Bay. This day (Sunday, July 11, 2010) we traveled nearly all the way across the Bay to Monterey before finding the whales.

Let me get back to the sea
Let me be stormy and let me be calm
Let the tide in, and set me free

    A great video of ocean encounters - magical shots of the same critters we have in our harbour here on the other side of North Am, dolphins and seals and whales not far from the pier, really. Loved the music and the power of the rising and falling ocean swells. Kind of awesome if you're in a kayak, which I tried once. Scary but exciting. Nice shooting.

    Thanks. Yes, I've kayaked past the otters and sea lions, and it was great, but it would be terrifyingly awesome to kayak right up to the whales.

    Except for the Otters, this could be Redondo Beach! Of course, our whales don't come up this close to the boats, but the dolphins do.

    Oh yes the otters - that is one critter I think we don't have. One morning I ran into some kayakers coming in when I was leaving the boat house and they were all shook up and excited about encountering some whales. Judging by their faces, I wasn't keen to go through the same myself. But, it would be memorable!

    Personally, I'd love to eat whale sushi. Which is why I'm appalled by the hunting that Japan is doing, as it diminishes the chances of future generations to do the same.
